Women-led and Working on the World's To-Do List
Did you know that African Bronze Honey / 10,000 Beekeepers is a women-led business? We are also part of a growing community of female entrepreneurs who are using their businesses to make positive changes in the world.
As a certified B Corp, we've packed purpose into our business DNA. Our business goals include making a profit, but not profit at the cost of the environment or people. We take the UN Sustainable Development Goals seriously. Our focus as a business is on:
- SDG # 13: Climate Action
- SDG #8 Decent Work and Economic Growth
- SDG #12 Responsible Consumption
That's why we've chosen to work with beekeeping projects who harvest organic forest honey in southern African forests. Their work in the forest produces incredibly delicious and healthy honey, but it also helps protect the forests from deforestation. That means that the 10,000 Beekeepers who live and work in these forests are ultimately responsible for capturing hundreds of thousands of tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere annually. That's valuable work.
So, as a member of the Fair Trade Federation, when we buy their honey, we want to be sure that they are well compensated. The beekeepers generally earn 20% to 40% more for their honey by working with our partner beekeeping projects. We think its worth it.
When you purchase our honey you are also helping the world move towards more responsible consumption. Our focus in that area is one of the reasons why we've moved to repurpose-able and plastic-free packaging. If you haven't already, check out our new jars. When you've finished your jar of honey you can remove the label and repurpose the jar for thousands of different uses! And... we're working on re-filling options, so stay tuned...
